Medical billing used to be a straightforward business: A provider sent claims to a payer, and the payer sent back payment at the invoice price. Pressured by government and employers to reduce health care spending, payers developed intricate reimbursement formulas that require complex contracts with providers. These complexities leave many medical practices “flying blind” when it comes to managing and budgeting their operations. This educational session emphasizes a working knowledge of managed care contracts and how best to position a medical practice in a managed care environment.
