How It Works
The Self-Paced option of the DoctorsManagement Certified Medical Practice Manager program is easy and convenient, allowing you to prepare in the convenience of your home or office and at your own pace. Here is how it works:
Step 1 - Prepare for the CMPM Certification Exam
Complete the self-paced CMPM Exam Study Hall on-line at the DoctorsManagement website (www.drsmgmt.com). This comprehensive training (25 recorded live presentations) covers the same content as the live on-site educational sessions. However, you can work at your own pace. Spend a few minutes here and there, or sit down and complete the whole course...the choice is yours! The content is specifically designed to cover the topics you will be tested on and need to know to successfully pass the CMPM Exam. The CMPM Self-Study Manual and copies of all educational session handouts are available in PDF format, which you can use as reference materials to help you pass the Exam.
Step 2 - Complete the on-line CMPM Certification Exam
When you are satisfied with your review of the self-paced CMPM Exam Study Hall, you are eligible to take the CMPM Certification Exam. When you placed your initial order request, you should have received an e-mail with instructions on how to take the Exam. Follow these instructions to the secured Exam website. Upon completion and passing the Exam, you will be on record with the DM School of Medical Practice Management as a Certified Medical Practice Manager (CMPM). The Exam is 100 multiple choice questions. A 75% accuracy rate is required to pass the Exam (75 correctly answered questions). The Exam, including any 2nd or 3rd attempts, must be completed within six months of your purchase date. You will receive your Exam results at the e-mail address you previously provided within 10 business days. Once a passing score is attained, a CMPM Certificate with a gold embossed CMPM medallion along with a press release of your achievement will be mailed to you. The press release will also be submitted to your local newspaper.

What are the differences between the Live On-Site Educational Sessions + Exam, E-Learning + Exam, Self-Paced Study + Exam, and the Exam Only option? All program options can lead to the CMPM credential, and all provide the same educational session content including instruction and class materials (except the Exam Only option). The Live On-Site Educational Sessions are conducted at Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, TN. Participating in the Live On-Site option offers the additional benefits of Round Table Discussions and Networking with other students. The E-Learning option offers the same experience as the Live option, but via webcast. E-Students are able to hear the live educational sessions, view the same PowerPoint presentations, see the other students, and participate as if they were there, but from the comfort of their office or home. The Self-Paced Study Exam offers a convenient opportunity for those who prefer to work at their own pace to acquire the same body of knowledge by studying the educational content in the CMPM Exam Study Hall (includes 25 recorded live presentations, all educational session handouts, and the CMPM Self-Study Manual) to prepare for the Exam. If you are an experienced and confident medical practice manager (3-years minimum), you can prove your practice management skills and knowledge by pursing the Exam Only option, with no preparation, by taking the Exam and passing it with a score of 80% or higher.
What can I do with the CMPM credential? The CMPM credential can give you an extra boost when looking for a job. When you pass the CMPM Exam, you are a certified medical practice manager. It is a great credential to put on your resume, and it attests to employers that you have gone the extra mile to demonstrate your commitment to a body of knowledge and experience necessary to be a competent medical practice management professional.
Are there annual fees for CMPM certification? There are currently no recurring annual fees for the CMPM Credential. (Terms subject to change without notice)
Are there printed Study materials that go with certification? When you invest in the Self-Paced option you have access to all on-line recorded educational sessions (CMPM Exam Study Hall), class handouts in PDF format, and the CMPM Self-Study Manual, which you can use as reference materials to help you pass the Exam.
How do I take the Exam? You will receive information by e-mail providing instructions on how to access and take the on-line Exam.
How long does it take to complete the CMPM Exam training and take the Exam? The Self-Paced option is equivalent to the Live On-Site and E-Learning options in content, less the round table discussions and networking. The educational sessions can be viewed in about 27 hours if you view them nonstop (not recommended).
The Exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions. How long the Exam takes depends entirely on how long it takes you to answer the questions and how well you know the material. Taking 1.5 hours or more is not uncommon when taking this test.
How long after receiving the test link do I have to take the Exam? The Exam, including any 2nd or 3rd attempts, must be completed within six months of your purchase date.
Once I start the Exam, do I have to complete it in one sitting? No, but DO NOT exit out of the Exam during testing or your answers WILL be lost. It is recommended that if you need to leave the Exam, to simply “minimize” the Exam screen.
How long can I go away from the Exam before it “times out?” The Exam does not officially “time out,” but your computer may “time out” if left alone for an extended period of time. It is suggested that you set aside undistracted time in your schedule to complete the Exam.
How many times can I take the test? Students not successful in passing the Exam will receive notice of their score and questions missed. These students may retake the Exam at their convenience. A student may attempt the Exam a maximum of three times.
What is a passing score for the Exam? The Exam is 100 multiple choice questions. A 75% accuracy rate is required to pass the Exam (75% correctly answered questions).
Will I receive a confirmation that my order was received? After we receive your initial order, you will be sent a confirmation that lets you know your order was received. Additional information about the CMPM Exam option you selected, including instructions, username and password will be provided within two business days. We will send the confirmation to the e-mail address you provided on the order form.
If selecting the Experience + Exam Only option how do I provide proof of my three years experience? You will be asked to provide a signed attestation of your experience along with a copy of your resume. The form will be provided. The DM School of Medical Practice Management reserves the right to approve or disallow any solicitation to take the Exam.
Will I receive CEUs? Participants of both the Knoxville live event and webcasts receive certificates showing contact hours. All educational sessions are eligible for approval for continuing education units (CEUs) by the Professional Association of Health Care Office Managers (PAHCOM) and the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). Check with your organization of choice for maximum credit availability for viewing video recordings of live events (Self-paced option). No CEUs are available for the Exam Only option.
