CLIA requires every laboratory performing moderate complexity testing to have a technical consultant (TC). This consultant must have at least a four-year degree plus two years laboratory training or experience in the specialty/subspecialty for which the TC is responsible. State-licensed physicians (MD, DO, DPM) may fulfill this role if she/he has one year training or experience in the appropriate specialty or subspecialty.
AAPOL has B.S M.T. (ASCP) consultants who can serve in this role indefinitely or until the physician gets the one year of experience. Our consultants review laboratory data monthly and provide detailed written reports of findings and recommendations. We assist with the surveys and any required corrective action, ensure manuals are kept up-to-date, perform testing personnel competencies, and monitor all quality systems in the laboratory to assure reliable test results as well as regulatory compliance. |
