Our pre-conference event consisted of a full day of focused breakout tracks. Attendees had the opportunity to select sessions from the following areas: Physician-Based Auditing, Compliance, FQHC/Rural Health and Facility-Based Auditing. On Monday, we opened conference with “What’s Next in Healthcare”, where NAMAS President Shannon DeConda discussed changes scheduled to home visits, ancillary documentation and teaching physician guidelines for 2019 as well as the reimbursement changes for E/M services and new codes scheduled for a 2021 implementation. During lunch, we had a special Veterans Day Session where a former Marine discussed the top traits of Marine Leadership, and we ended the day with a debate on most pressing E/M topics. Monday ended with a reception in our exhibit hall where we hosted a tacky tourist contest. Our exhibitors voted on who won, and our winner received a complimentary registration to next year’s event!
On Tuesday, we returned to a full day of breakout sessions from the following areas: Compliance, Physician-Based Auditing, Specialty Physician-Based Auditing, and Compliance Legalities. Attendees sat in on sessions such as Defending Your Audit Findings, Telehealth and Telemedicine, Auditing Wound Care services, Defending the Medical Necessity of the E/M Encounter, and Medicare Inducements to name a few. We ended Tuesday with a reception for our VIP attendees at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. We were greeted by a private dolphin encounter and learned about the dolphins’ natural habitat and the rehabilitation goals of the aquarium. After the presentation, attendees were able to visit all of the aquarium’s exhibits before being shuttled back to the hotel.
Conference concluded on Wednesday afternoon, but not before sessions presented by the industry’s top health law attorneys such as Your Liability as an Auditing and Compliance Professional presented by Robert Liles, The Legal & Compliance Concerns Caused by the Opiate Crisis presented by Amanda Waesch, and the concluding session, The Persistent Myths About Stark, presented by Daniel Shay.
We’ve received a wealth of preliminary positive feedback from both attendees and speakers, and would like to thank our team of staff members and helpers who assisted in making this event a success for our attendees. If you weren’t able to join us this year, we’d like to invite you to next year’s conference. And speaking of next year….
We’re happy to announce that our 2019 conference dates and venue have been confirmed! We will be holding our pre-conference event on Sunday, October 27, 2019. Conference will be held Monday, October 28 – Wednesday, October 30, 2019. Our event will be held at the Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach. We decided to return to the Clearwater venue for a number of reasons. First, the location couldn’t be better! The hotel is located directly on the white sandy beaches of Florida’s Gulf, the conference room spaces are plentiful, and is within close proximity of two airports – Tampa International and St. Pete/Clearwater for easier travel for attendees. Additionally, the hotel is within close proximity to many restaurants, shopping and entertainment for attendees to enjoy downtime. Please continue to watch your email as the 2019 event agenda is released.
If you are interested in registering for our 11th Annual Auditing & Compliance Conference, you may do so by placing a $50 deposit on your registration. Click here to place your deposit for this event. If you would like to request an invoice to be presented to your employer, please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can assist with that as well.
If this was your first conference event, we hope you found it to be of value to you and your career. If you’re a repeat attendee, thank you for entrusting us with providing your education. If you’re planning your continuing education for 2019, we’d like to invite you to our next event. On behalf of NAMAS, I’d like to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving, joyful holiday season, and prosperous new year.
